Planning A Water Well Drilling Enquiry? Start With These Details.

A practical checklist for describing the job before discussing a rig.

A clear enquiry starts with the work to be done, rather than a model name alone. This checklist helps organise the information that needs technical review; it does not select a rig or confirm a configuration.

Describe The Work, Not Just A Model.

Explain the planned drilling work. If you have a model in mind, include it, but also state the intended task so the discussion has an evidence-based starting point.

Prepare The Site Information.

List the intended location, target depth, borehole diameter, known ground information, access restrictions, transport requirements and proposed drilling method. Mark unknown points as unknown.

Identify Existing Equipment.

List compressors, tools, rods and other supporting equipment with model, nameplate and connection references where available. Do not infer compatibility from photographs.

Define The Quotation Request.

State the requested equipment, accessories, quantity, destination and schedule. Ask for unresolved specification and interface questions to be listed before quotations are compared.

Enquiry Checklist

  • Location and intended task
  • Target depth and borehole diameter
  • Known ground conditions and proposed method
  • Existing equipment and interfaces
  • Requested scope, quantity and destination

Technical Review Boundary: This article is an enquiry checklist. It does not promise drilling depth, borehole diameter, equipment compatibility, configuration or performance.

Why Depth Alone Is Not A Selection Rule

A target depth gives the discussion a useful starting point, but it does not describe the whole borehole. Record the diameter, expected formations, intended drilling method and site access alongside it. Keep target values separate from catalogue figures: the former describe your task, while the latter describe a documented machine configuration. Neither is a guarantee of progress in the actual formation.

Separate The Rig From The Complete Package

Prepare two lists: equipment already available and equipment to be supplied. Include rods, tools, air or circulation equipment and handling accessories where relevant. This prevents an enquiry for a rig from being interpreted as a request for a complete system, or the reverse. Ask for optional items and customer-supplied components to be identified in the offer.

Make Quotations Comparable

Use the same task description when comparing proposed configurations. Check the model, engine arrangement, listed specifications, accessories, documentation and exclusions together. If information is missing, request clarification rather than substituting a figure from a similarly named model. Current specification sheets and the final written quotation should resolve the ordering scope.
