Water pumping

Flow, Head And Power: Preparing A Submersible Pump Enquiry.

Bring the installation information into the pump discussion.

Conceptual deep-well pump and water-delivery arrangement. Concept illustration.
Editorial concept illustration. Equipment, ground and layouts are illustrative, not a specific model, customer site or operating diagram.

Pump selection starts with the installation and required duty. This checklist does not calculate a duty point or recommend a pump, controller, inverter or photovoltaic arrangement.

Describe The Intended Installation.

Identify the water source, pump location, water use, available installation information and any project specification.

Record The Required Duty.

Provide required flow and head with units and relevant conditions. If those values are unknown, leave them as review items rather than estimating them.

Explain The Power Arrangement.

State available power, controller requirements, installation dimensions and operating constraints that need consideration.

Confirm The Offered Scope.

Ask which pump, controller and accessories are included and which documents support the proposed configuration.

Enquiry Checklist

  • Water source and installation type
  • Required flow and head with units
  • Available power and controller requirements
  • Installation information and requested scope

Technical Review Boundary: This article does not calculate a duty point or recommend a pump family, controller, inverter or photovoltaic configuration.

A Deep Well Does Not Automatically Define Head

Provide the water level during pumping where known, the delivery elevation, pipe information and any pressure required at the outlet. Well depth describes the borehole, not the entire pumping duty. If some information is estimated, label it clearly rather than presenting it as a measured operating condition.

Keep Rated And Maximum Values Separate

Variant tables may list rated and maximum values with different meanings. Do not combine maximum head with maximum flow into one assumed duty point. Request the relevant curve and a review of the intended operating condition. This guide does not size a pump or produce a performance curve from isolated catalogue numbers.

Describe Power And Control Requirements

State available voltage, frequency and supply arrangement, or explain that solar operation is being considered. Identify storage and operating-schedule expectations where relevant. Confirm the motor, controller, cable, protection and power-equipment scope separately; a pump-family listing does not necessarily include every component of a complete installation.
